December - 2003 Southwest Transmission Cooperative, Inc successfully implements TrapServer solution to monitor and mediate TL-1 based Events from the Alcatel 1603 and 1612 SONET multiplex equipment.

Southwest Transmission Coop has added transmission substations to its utility network, which includes SONET transport. They have been utilizing Alcatel microwave and monitoring the microwave using the Badger Alarm and Control, LLC NetManager. The NetManager does a very good job at monitoring the Alcatel Microwave using the Alcatel proprietary MCS-11 protocol but the SONET Multiplex is not equipped with MCS-11; it uses TL-1 to transmit fault messages. Southwest Transmission Coop needed these events managed by the same manager they use, NetManager and viewed from its GUI. Integrated TrapServer successfully provided the bridge from the Alcatel SONET Multiplex to the Badger AC NetManager.

TrapServer communicates to the 1603 (configured as the gateway) using TL1 device via TCP/IP socket connections over a LAN/WAN. TrapServer makes this connection to that one gateway device. Through the gateway device, TrapServer logs in and monitors the other 1603s. Reported events are forwarded to the NetManager over the TCP/IP connection and integrated into its database, logged to the printer and displayed on the GUI. Paging and email notification also takes place at the TrapServer and is scheduled on time of day and day of week basis over a 3 month rotating calendar.

TrapServer is an inexpensive protocol mediation tool for multiple protocols (such as, ASCII, TL-1, SNMP (V1/V2), modbus TCP/IP.) that also provides monitoring and notifies via email and/or paging of events that can degrade the quality of service its users are providing. After hours access for current status and historical reports are accomplished using secure Internet access or secure/non-secure corporate WAN access. 2003 - 2nd order received by major wireless carrier.

November 2003 - Alcatel SONET TL-1 Monitoring Interface

SchoRen NMS Solutions, LLC releases the TL-1 Monitoring over TCP/IP Interface on TrapServer to provide fault monitoring of the Alcatel 1603/1612/1648 SONET Fiber Products. This application uses one SONET device as the “gateway”, all events from the SONET system are reported and managed on Event Viewer, Web Interface and by Email/Paging Manager. Multiple gateways can also be supported.

In a Fiber Monitoring Application, TrapServer can also provide a module to perform event correlation and system logging. This would be used in determining a fiber-cut (outage) within a specific route or ring. Once implemented, the event correlation rules would be adjustable using a graphical interface.

July 2003 - 2nd order received by major wireless carrier.

A second order to provide TrapServer to another market of the same major wireless carrier was received by SchoRen this week. "TrapServer supplies the MTSO/MSC with the ability to provide a very high quality of service to its customer" states CEO John Scholtens. "After seeing its simple implementation and its relatively low cost, our customer understands that the TrapServer fits within its QOS model as a vehicle of growth within a very competitive market." TrapServer is a low cost tool, which enables the NOC to integrate non-standard equipment into its own internal management system, seamlessly.

May 2003 - TrapServer is selected within the Wireless Industry

SchoRen NMS Solutions, LLC announced the purchase of TrapServer by a major wireless carrier to integrate wireless products into their Network Operations Center. TrapServer simplifies the integration of non-standard element at the MTSO/MSC into a common interface at the NOC. No longer are work orders needed between the region and the NOC when new equipment comes on line. The NOC "sees" everything through the eyes of TrapServer.

February 2003- Badger Alarm and Control, LLC selects TrapServer as their technology bridge.

SchoRen NMS Solutions, LLC and Badger Alarm and Control, LLC announce their partnership agreement to provide TrapServer to span Badgers' newer technology products (due for release in Q4 of 2003) onto Badger's legacy platform, the NetManager. NetManager is a very good tool for monitoring microwave and fiber sites using the Badger 481 and Badger LarScan remote terminal units. "TrapServer allows our customer to continue to use their capital investment to monitor newer IP based, ASCII and TL-1 network elements without having to change out having to change anything in their system" states Badger's CEO Mary Overby. "This is significant, especially in today's business environment where our customers are trying to work within reduced maintenance budgets" she goes on to say. "We are very excited to provide this type of service for our customers and look forward to our partnership with SchoRen!"
