Major Mid-Western Utility “future- proofs” their monitoring with TrapServer

June 2007

This Touchstone Energy Cooperative Utility adds Redundant TrapServertm to monitor their communications infrastructure using legacy Badger 481 Remote Monitoring Unit and SNMP. TrapServer will gather and monitor events from the 481 RTU using the Badger 481 proprietary protocol enabling these legacy 481 RTUs to remain in place, eliminating the need for this utility to perform a wholesale forklift replacement of a reliable remote monitoring unit.

All alarms sent to TrapServer are archived for reporting, displayed for trouble resolution and then filtered and forwarded to an HPOV system. This way, only the service affecting events are sent.

Locally, events will be displayed using AreaViewer, which is SchoRen’s latest addition to TrapServer. AreaViewer provides a multiple level Graphical User Interface (GUI) that contains a visual indication of monitored system. Users can determine system status with a brief glance.
